Match Report

Deniliquin scored its fifth win in a row on Saturday as it took care of Cootamundra 10-0.

The Southern Inland Rugby Union second grade match was played at Cootamundra, with the Drovers continuing their terrific form.

After making the 350km trip, the scoring was opened up by Peter Gow, who landed a nice try, while youngster Todd Thocolich kicked one conversion and one penalty goal to help sink the Tri-Colours.

Lynden Goulding was awarded the three votes as Deni’s best player.

Nathan Transton collected two votes, while Jazz Tata and Glenn Goulding shared one each.

The Players’ Player award went to Thocolich.

The SIRU competition now splits in two with the top side’s to contest the Walsh & Blair Cup, and the bottom six sides the Romano’s Cup.

As Deniliquin only has a second grade competition, the Drovers will play in the Romano’s Cup.

The official draw is yet to be released, but it looks as though the Drovers will be up against Temora, Young, Leeton, Tumut and Cootamundra.

Third on the ladder, the Drovers have proved they can match it with the best, having beaten ladder-leader Ag College and Tumut on the road, and also scoring a scintillating away victory against Griffith earlier in the year.
